Jan. 16 – In Naples, there was a practice in very particular the past, that of the “suspended coffee”: the poor could find a coffee at the bar paid by a previous customer. It was not about charity, but about solidarity and understanding. There are many curiosities and anecdotes on the “tazzulella e’ cafè” as Pino Daniele used to sing. On the beloved beverage, there will be a series of meetings, entitled “Il caffè e… I caffè storici d’Italia,” scheduled in February at the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta. The series will begin on Feb. 3. Guest of the event will be Lorenzo Forforelli, from Vittoria, Ragusa. Forforelli will highlight the origins and history of coffee, explaining how it became so popular in Italy in the form of espresso. It will be the evening to find out how to make a good coffee while discussing historical facts on coffee in Italy, where to find the best blends and what makes them unique.
