Lilongwe – In response to the emergency situation in West Africa caused by floods, particularly in Malawi, the Italian Cooperation has earmarked a multilateral emergency contribution of €150.000 in favor of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the IFRC. The Italian contribution will support outreach work carried out by the Malawi Red Cross, in particular WASH measures to prevent the outbreak of epidemics. The donation will also be devoted to the provision of food and basic necessities to ensure a temporary shelter for displaced people. The IFRC will also examine efforts to trace missing persons so as to facilitate family reunification, as well as the capacity of the local Red Cross Society in preparation activities of natural disasters.
