New York – This afternoon, the Italian American Museum in New York hosts presentation on “The Carnival of Venice”, a lecture, available on DVD, by Anita Sanseverino on the historic event. The photographer focuses on masks and rituals of the Carnival, which began in the 13th century, although the tradition of the masquerade was only adopted in 1436. Historically, the practice was widespread among the Venetians, regardless of their social status. The average citizen through the mask could for a day be what they wanted to be more, escaping the restrictions of Venetian society. For the occasion, authentic Venetian carnival masks will also be on display. (PO / red)
