Tacarutu – Enel Green Power has begun construction on two new photovoltaic plants in the municipality of Tacaratu, Pernambuco State, in northeast Brazil. EGP already owns and operates in the same area the 80 MW “Fontes dos Ventos” wind farm and both solar plants, once completed, will be combined with it. With a total installed capacity of 11 MW, Fontes Solar I and II will be EGP’s largest photovoltaic complex in Brazil. Once fully operational, their total output will exceed 17 GWh, equivalent to the energy needs of around 90 thousand Brazilian households, thereby avoiding the emission of more than 5 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
