Feb. 26 – Italy and Australia are closer than ever, thanks to kiwi. An agreement between Montello’s Kiwiny Green, based in the province of Treviso, and Premier Fruits Group brings to Australian shelves the kiwifruit grown in Veneto. The first delivery took place in the presence of the Italian Consul General in Melbourne, Marco Maria Cerbo, who helped establish contact between the two companies. Premier Fruit Group is led by a businessman proud of his Italian and Abruzzo heritage: Anthony Di Pietro is also president of the Melbourne football team inVictory, currently second in the A-League . “The operation – reads a note from the Consulate General – wants to make the most of the different seasonal crops in the two countries: Treviso’s kiwifruits will be available in Australia only when these fruits aren’t ripe yet in the southern hemisphere. Kiwiny makes high quality, organic products. Its experience dates back to the 1970s. And there is no reason to expect sour reviews by Melbourne consumers.” Consul General Cerbo commented: “Trade promotion has given its fruits! All puns aside, let me point out that today is significant because it shows that Australia can be an important outlet for Italian companies, and because it confirms that institutions can play a key role in creating trade flows.”
