Feb. 26 – He created the original scores for Italy’s most talented directors (Gabriele Salvatores, Paolo Sorrentino, Andrea Molaioli, Guido Chiesa, Daniele Vicari, Stefano Incerti and Claudio Cupellini). He worked with international musicians like Erik Friedlander, Lydia Lunch, and Placebo. He’s won countless awards and honors (Ciak d’Oro for Best Score and several Nastro d’Argento and David di Donatello nominations). Simply put, he is a reference for the world of music in cinema. Teho Teardo is a composer, musician and sound designer. He was born in Pordenone 48 years ago, Teardo is able to move easily between film, theater and visual arts, imprinting his unmistakable stylistic in each of his works. Only a few days ago, Teardo was in Dublin for the Irish Theatre Awards. The Friuli musician won for his work on the score of “Ballyturk”, a play by director and screenwriter Enda Walsh, who also won the award for “Best Theater Production of the Year.” Teardo wasn’t the only one to bring home an award though, Ballyturk sound designer Helen Atkinson also brought home an award for her work on the soundtrack, while actor Stephen Rea won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Initially created for the aforementioned play by Enda Walsh, which had its world premiere in July at the Galway Festival and in September at the National Theatre in London, the score for “Ballyturk” was reworked and recorded by Teardo in a new album, released last October, which also features Joe Lally (Fugazi) and Lori Goldston, cellist for Nirvana. Teardo’s primordial force and moving music are aptly interepreted by Cillian Murphy, who recites the lyrics. Murphy (who stars in the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Breakfast on Pluto, Red Eye, In Time) also performed in Walsh’s theatrical piece. (Gil)
