Mar. 3 – Literature takes the stage once again at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague thanks to “Narratives contentions. Twenty years of Italian writings on migration.” This is the title of the book by Chiara Mengozzi (published by Carocci in 2013, 216 pages, €22) that will be presented on Thursday, March 5 at 6pm at the Video Hall of the Institute (Šporkova 14 118 00 Praha 1 – Malá Strana). The Italian Cultural Institute and the Dante Alighieri Society organized a meeting with the writer to highlight her work with profesor Luciano Lagazzi. The translation from Italian into Czech will be entrusted to Ondřej Švec, while Laura Rubini, Luca Cristiano and Petra Horváthová will to take care of the readings. The literature of immigrants in Italy, twenty years after its birth, has become a cultural phenomenon. In her book, Mengozzi proposes – for the first time – an overview to show a key to unity, without being simplistic, able to highlight the limitations and strengths of this new and important area of contemporary Italian literature. “Chiara Mengozzi’s book states right from the beginning, from its title, that it wants to overcome the rhetoric that has accompanied Italian literature on migration. She openly address problematic issues relevant in both the works and the criticism they trigger,” writes Alessandro Dal Lago in “Not-people. The exclusion of migrants in a global society” (Feltrinelli, 1999). Admission to the event is free; immediately after there will be an aperitif. (PO / Gil)
