Mar. 12 – A vibrant and exciting journey in the daily life of sixteenth century Venice: this is what Isabella Palumbo Fossati Casa’s new book, “Dentro le case. Abitare a Venezia nel Cinquecento” (2013, 360 p., Editore Gambier Keller collana Recto / verso) has to offer. The book introduces the reader to a city where the most noble and singular cosmopolitanism triumphs. Written thanks to a detailed analytical work on f 600 inventories kept in the notary archives of the Venetian Republic, now in the State Archives of Venice, Isabella Palumbo Fossati Casa’s new book will be presented on March 17 at 6:30pm at the Italian Institute of Culture in Buenos Aires. The event was promoted by the same Institute in collaboration with the Alliance Française of Buenos Aires, the Committee of Venetian-Argentina Associations, and the Recreational Club La Trevisana in Buenos Aires. Isabella Palumbo Fossati Casa has a degree in Literature and History from the University of Venice, she is a specialist in the history of culture and has authored numerous publications on artistic, commercial and linguistic relations between Venice and the Eastern Mediterranean. “Dentro le case” is a micro-history of the common people, traders, members of the liberal arts, and patricians that make up a whole new Venice, full of life, open and welcoming, cosmopolitan, and rich in goods and cultural diversity.
