Apr. 24 – Matteo Garrone, Nanni Moretti and Paolo Sorrentino aren’t the only Italians taking over Cannes this Spring. The movie “”Le Badanti,” directed by Marco Pollini, makes its official debut in Italian cinemas on 11 June, but it premieres on May 19 at the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, dedicated to the film industry professionals. “Le Badanti” is a social comedy that portrays three extra-EU women, Lola, Irina and Carmen, who arrive in Italy in search of a job. The film stars Pino Ammendola, Anna Jimskaia, Samantha Castillo, Alessandro Bressanello and 94-year-old Stella Maris. The soundtrack was written by Maestro Franco Bignotto, but features three songs by Federico Poggipollini, Ligabue’s historical guitarist, “Taxi Viola”, “Anima Silvestre” (feat. Helen di Cioccio) and “Incredibile potere.” “Le Badanti” was shot between Veneto, Alto Garda and Malaysia and takes Italy’s social conditions as the background to the stories and characters. It tells the tragic story of three women who come to work in the province of Verona and inevitably collide and meet with a culture very different from their own. The subject of the film was among the first to be selected for the 2012 competition of the Youth Policies Observatory of the Veneto Region. It was later developed by Marco Pollini with screenwriters Peppino Crea and Giovanni Dentici. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2014 and at Vinitaly in Verona. It’s a co-production between Ahora!Film and the Malaysian company Sg Entertainment, supported by the Veneto Region and enjoys the Film Tax Credit ratified by the Ministry of Culture. (Red)
