May 7 – Terrasonora is a contemporary folk group whose music is inspired by Campania’s tradition combined with more modern and current contents. The tambourine plays alongside the electric bass and keyboards with ciaramella… Terrasonora sing of their experience, their origins, their social context, using a “popular” language (the dialect) that has an immediate communicative power. And soon, the group will perform in Turkey: on Saturday, May 9 – during Europe Day – the group will perform at the Istanbul Haydarpaşa Station. The event was organized by the EU Delegation in Turkey in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul and EUNIC. Terrasonora has always presented a constant reference to the popular pace (of tammurriata and tarantella) and tools (tammorra, tambourine, bagpipe, flutes), commingled with rhythms and instruments (cajon, darabouka, nay) that come instead from other cultures or styles (bass guitar, keyboards). This mix and matching is the group’s hallmark. Their influence has thus been to enter tradition, mutating its language to renew and expand its expressive potential. (Red)
