June 5 – “Institutional relationships between Italy and Latin America are strong, and after a slight decline in the past twenty years there has been a quick recovery in the last two. Today we can say that Italy is back in Latin America,” states the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro, during the presentation for the Seventh Italy-Latin America Conference, scheduled in Milan for June 12-13. According to the Giro, “the institutional visits that didn’t happen for a long time are back: with the visits under Letta’s government and that scheduled for the fall of Prime Minister Renzi.” Recalling that “the correspondence between Italy and Latin America can be seen in history, in the cultural community, and the similarity of the language,” Giro highlights that “in these years of absence institutional, Italy has still remained present with its businesses and community.” A presence that Giro defines a “success” especially, with “many businesses run by Italian descendants and many Italian companies that invest heavily in Latin America.” (Sip)
