London – It is possible to regenerate the bone of an elderly person without accelerating its calcification process? Researchers from the University of Pisa, with the collaboration of colleagues at the Polytechnic University in the Marche, studied and created a biomaterial composed only of proteins that, despite the absence of calcium, would be able to stimulate bone regeneration. The research, published in Nature Scientific Reports, was carried out under the project “Engineering organ models of physiological interest for the investigation of pathological disorders related to aging” (in Italian, the acronym is MIND), which has the purpose to recreate in vitro the conditions of aging so as to understand what factors slow down or accelerate the progress.
