8 July, 2015 – “I always had the myth of New York and in Italy unfortunately there wasn’t a chance to improve, or do more. So, in 2000, I said goodbye to everyone and I left for America. And I started from scratch,” explains Alberto Cretara, aka Polo: Neapolitan artist, entrepreneur, known both in the music world as in that of show business, he is a member of the hip hop trio La Famiglia and starred in films such as “Capo Nord” and successful TV series such as ” La Squadra “). And Cretara is the mastermind behind a new project that wants to be a megaphone for the many young Italians who emigrated abroad and especially in the Big Apple. This is Radio Nuova York, a web radio that will begin broadcasting in September. Based in New York City, founded by Cretara, the web radio wants to provide entertainment and information to the Italian immigrants in New York, a service designed for young talents, intellectuals and professionals from different sectors, and who are looking for new opportunities and more recognition in the United States. Logging on www.radionuovayork.com (active from September), various programs with presenters interacting through social networks live. Ample space will be devoted to new Italian music, with an eye to the indie movement, and above all the radio will promote Italian culture and Italian style on American territory (music, cinema, literature, art, fashion, sports, cuisine, travel, and design). “It will be a young, independent and funny radio, – explains Cretara – the idea stems from the need to tell of modern Italians in New York, because our predominant icon is still tied to old stereotypes. Our goal is to create a real, clean and genuine radio, with real contents: it will be a box for apolitical content. We do not want to be radical chic, commercial or institutional, we want to be ‘popular’ in the noblest sense of the term. There are so many young talents in the Italian community in New York: in all fields and everyone has something important to say. We want to be their megaphone. We want to become a reference point. In addition, we want to have our say on Italy, a country that we love, but at the same time we look at it with a critical eye and with an ‘American mentality.’ Music will be very important: we will broadcast all kinds, from new indie Italian to the latest international trends. We’ll be careful to quality. Radio Nuova York is a dream that is slowly taking shape.”
