Hamburg – As required by the arbitration procedure initiated on June 26, Italy today called on the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, for the return to Italy of Navy Rifleman Salvatore Girone and the permanence in Italy of Navy Rifleman Massimiliano Latorre until the end of the arbitral procedure. Italy also called on the Court to suspend the jurisdiction procedures against the two men in India. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the news in a statement earlier today, affirming that the initiative is dictated by the need to protect the rights of the two Navy men and of Italy during the course of the arbitration proceedings . As usual, the Hamburg court should respond within a few weeks. (9Colonne)
