23 July, 2015 – The symphonic rock opera “Stabat Mater” by Franco Simone is “perfect” according to Mario Luzzatto Fegiz. “Stabat Mater” is directly inspired by the prayer of the XIII century composed by Jacopone da Todi: it’s a meditation on the pain experienced by the Virgin Mary during the crucifixion of Jesus. Franco Simone composed the melodies in Latin and created a singular work that skillfully blends classical music to rock solutions. After winning over Italian audiences and critics, the famous songwriter, author and television host (winner of the Castrocaro Festival in 1972 and the Golden Lion in 2003) is ready to present his composition for the first time in Chile. The Italian Institute of Culture in Santiago – in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy – promoted the event, scheduled for Monday, July 27 at 7:30pm at the headquarters of the same Institute (located in at the corner of Triana 843 and Eleodoro Yañez in the Providencia district). The appointment will see the participation of Franco Simone, and singer Michele Cortese who collaborated actively in the project. Both artists currently participate in the TV show The Voice of Chile, broadcast by Canal 13. The Santiago Italian Institute of Culture will screen selected videos of the opera, introduced by Simone and Cortese’s reflections. (Gil)
