28 July, 2015 – Take the sounds of Canadian jazz, add the roots of Italian folk music, bring in the group “Sicilian Jazz Project” – a band from Toronto, the voice of the singer, performer and composer Ilaria Patassini, aka Pilar. The result is a must-see show, a meeting of music and cultures in the name of internationalism. This unique and unusual mix is what the Canadian group brings to the stage with the Italian singer in a concert scheduled for Saturday, August 1. “Sicilian Jazz Project” and Pilar are the main stars of the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal sponsored event “Pilar and the Sicilian Jazz Project” that takes place in at 10pm at the Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts in Ottawa. The event is part of the series of concerts of the ” Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival,” two weeks of music events (over 100 shows) and 450 artists from around the world to enliven the musical summer of the Canadian city. The concert on Saturday is the result of an Italian-Canadian project entitled “Sicilian Jazz Project” created by Michael Occhipinti, composer with the band, along with Patassini and Don Byron, famous American clarinetist. The collaboration between the artists and the cultural fusion of musical styles and genres will be the hallmark of the evening, which promises to be a fantastic mix of chamber music and modern Canadian jazz. Pilar performs with band members Michael Occhipinti (guitar), Roberto Occhpinti (bass), Don Byron (clarinet), Louis Simao (accordion), and Mark Kelso (drums).
