San Francisco – A new technique, ideated by the INGV and the CNR, can calculate, through satellite data and GPS, the manner in which deep magma in the depths of the Campi Flegrei, arises, creating even millimeter deformations on the Earth’s surface. The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports, and provides useful information on new monitoring systems that can help deal with any future volcanic crisis: not only in Italy but also abroad because, according to the research, the mechanism is probably common to other calderas such as Yellowstone in the US and Rabaul in Papua New Guinea.
