London – Prosecco sales in the UK have exceeded those of champagne for the first time: the British spent a third of a billion pounds in Italian sparkling wine. The value skyrocketed, reaching £339 million, sprinting forward compared to the French option. Champagne sales were flat, rising by only 1.2% in the year up to mid-July, with a total turnover of £250 million. This is the third year in a row that Prosecco sales exceeds those of champagne.
