August 20, 2015 – As part of the “Summer Cinema. Contemporary Italian film festival,” the Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam screens on Thursday, 27 August (8pm) “Suso. La signora del cinema italiano – Conversazioni con Margherita D’Amico di Luca Zingaretti” (Italy 2007). By Luca Zingaretti – famous on the small screen especially for playing Montalbano in the TV series adaptation of Andrea Camilleri’s novels – the film is a fitting tribute to Suso Cecchi D’Amico, a great woman of Italian cinema, a screenwriter who in more than fifty years of career helped with the writing of masterpieces like “Ladri di biciclette”, “I soliti ignoti”, “Rocco e i suoi fratelli”, “Il Gattopardo”, “Vacanze romane”. Suso, a little over ninety, converses pleasantly with her niece Margaret in the living room of her beloved home, recounting her encounters with directors and the extraordinarily fruitful partnerships with Monicelli and Visconti, actors and intellectuals, speaking of herself as a daughter, wife, mother, and woman.
