August 21, 2015 – The famous Italian writer Simonetta Agnello Hornby, in Australia for a series of events within the Melbourne Writers Festival, on Friday August 28 will be at Sydney University for a special event. The author – who likes to call herself “a writer by chance” – will bring her experience as a Sicilian and Italian abroad, talking about the link between migration and literature. The event – organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with the University of Sydney, will take place from 3pm to 5pm. “The migratory movements, which include forms of modern slavery – reads the presentation statement of the IIC – are probably the largest and most controversial phenomenon of our time, a source of hatred, fear, racism, but also a chance for integration, cultural enrichment, renewal and growth. The writer will also examine the role of narration (old and new traditions), cuisine (linked to the identity) and the media (Internet, television writing) in all this”. (Red)
