August 26, 2015 – The reciprocal influence between comics and other art forms offer many creative possibilities. On this subject – and not only – Sara Colaone tells her story. The cartoonist, illustrator and author of cartoons was born in Pordenone 45 years ago. And she will represent our country at a conference in Berlin scheduled for Saturday, 12 September. The debate will focus on comics, art and creativity. Colaone will walk the stage with Filipe Melo (Portugal), Alexandra Gavrila (Romania), Olivier Schrauwen (Belgium) and Maciej Sienczyk (Poland). The five artists take over the annual appointment of the “Graphic Novel Day” in Berlin, working with different genres and forms of expression, moving between music, literature and illustrations. With their works, they anticipate new trends an changes in the world of comics. Their different cultural and artistic expressions enrich the creative potential of the graphic novel. The event – to be held at the Institut Francais, Kurfürstendamm 211, Berlin-Charlottenburg – was organized by the Internationales Literature Festival Berlin in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Berlin. Lars von Törne will moderate the meeting. The latest work by Calanone, who teaches Comics and Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, is “In Italia sono tutti maschi,” a graphic novel about homosexuals in confinement during the Fascist period (texts by Luca de Santis; Kappa editions 2008). In the book, the Italian artist told through her illustrations the forced exile of about 300 homosexuals on the island of San Domino in the years between 1938 and 1940.
