Maputo – The Italian Cooperation has presented at Expo the results of a study on the change in eating habits in Mozambique. The study, conducted by public health expert Marcello Gelormini and by the Professor of Geography at the University Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo, was presented by Minister Maggipinto of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “In Maputo live more than 1 million 200 thousand people, 4% of the population of Mozambique – stressed Gelormini – In addition, the capital is a destination for many commuters. In this context of strong urbanization more and more people look to street food for their daily meal. The pros are the low price and convenience but, unfortunately, from the nutritional point of view these are foods high in fat and sugar, fried and made with refined flour. We are at an early stage of the study and will continue to analyze the food situation in Maputo in the coming months in partnership with the University of Porto,” the expert concluded. (9colonne)
