27 August, 2015 – Shenzhen, the Chinese metropolis designated by UNESCO as Creative City of Design, launches the second edition of the international call for young designers from the city network. For Italy, Bologna is one of the cities in the network, and already in 2014 the capital of Emilia had a winner in the student category of the SZ Day – Shenzhen Design Award for young talents, Gian Piero Giovannini with ‘Cactus’ and ‘Ultraviolet’, self-produced pieces by the brand Urge Design. Bologna, which is part of the Creative Cities Network of UNESCO for Music since 2006, will preselect the best local projects that will then be submitted to the jury in Shenzhen. The contest, whose theme this year is “Transformation: mission design”, will award the projects of young designers capable of promoting and increasing environmental sustainability, social and economic development and improving the quality of life within cities. The contest aims to promote the creation of products that can contribute positively to the transformation of socio-economic systems. Applications must be submitted before 1pm on September 8.
