Sacramento – The growing demand for energy and the need to reduce its environmental impact in production and consumption have led the scientific community to work with the industrial world. The goal is to focus on the key role that ICTs can play in initiating a process of structural transformation in the stages of the energy cycle: from generation to accumulation, transportation, distribution, sales and, above all, intelligent energy consumption. To promote an international and high level network between subjects involved in research in this area, there is the Siebel California Energy Institute, a consortium that sees the Polytechnic of Turin partner with 7 of the most prestigious research centers: Carnegie Mellon University, Ecole Polytechnique, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Tokyo. The Polytechnic is coordinator or partner in four of the winning projects, with proposals for the analysis and forecasting of energy consumption at the local and global scale, the distribution of electricity, and energy efficiency of buildings. “For the Polytechnic, being part of the Siebel Energy Institute is a great opportunity,” said the Dean Marco Gilli: “We are indeed honored to share with first-rate institutions worldwide the challenge of smart energy”.
