2 September, 2015 – Switzerland lacks engineers, and so it’s intensifying its search for Italian experts. The interesting trend of the Swiss labor market emerged from a survey by Technical Hunters, an Italian head hunting agency. According to Technical Hunters, there have been considerable increases recently in the sectors of electrical, chemical, and pharmaceutical engineering, plastics, metals, machinery and precision instruments, with higher salaries offers (+20% compared to what Italian companies). According to Serafino Sorace, consultant for Technical Hunters Popular, the most wanted profiles are those of: R&D Manager, with salaries ranging from €60,000 gross per year for young engineers, to reach €120.000 for people with over ten years of experience; Quality Managers, with salaries ranging from €70 000 to €110,000 Euros; while Commercial Technicians / Sales Engineers can earn €70/80.000 per year. “In Switzerland, companies are facing a lack of specialized technical figures. In some cases, this gap is so severe that it reduces the prospects for growth and competitiveness, in spite of the company’s will and available resources,” explains Sorace, “in particular , it’s more difficult to hire and retain such profiles in some regions, such as Ticino, where there isn’t a real technical postgraduate engineering training proposal. Which is why in that Swiss region, companies look for Italian engineers, highly appreciated in terms of training and skills.”
