September 11, 2015 – This morning, Rome became an official candidate for the Olympics and Paralympics of 2024. The letter that formalizes the commitment to organize the biggest sports festival in the world was delivered to the International Olympic Committee in Paris, which on 16 September will reveal the names of all the cities that volunteered to host the prestigious event. The official nomination was signed by the Chairman of the Committee Roma 2024 Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the president of CONI Giovanni Malago and the Mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino. In the application, there is a project that promises “an opportunity to experience the excitement and Olympic spirit in the most spectacular and symbolic milieus of the Eternal City, a metropolis where diversity becomes the backbone of equality.” Rome, explains the letter, has many sports facilities, partly in parks and major green areas, which will be used for the Olympics 2024 after minor modernization works and the installment, if necessary, of removable structures.
