September 23rd, 2015 – With 725,000 fellow nationals registered at the local AIRE, Argentina is in the lead among destination countries for Italian emigration. Behind the Latin American country, there are Germany, Switzerland, France, Brazil, the UK, Canada and Australia. This according to the Migrantes Foundation’s Italians Abroad World Report 2014. The strong bond between Italy and Argentina has deep roots, with Argentina (as the United States and Brazil) receiving the huge waves of migrants in the second half of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century. But who are the Italians in Argentina? What do they do? Some of them – young professionals, academics, artists and entrepreneurs – have decided to give life to “Lia”: a laboratory of ideas between Italy and Argentina. The project will be presented Thursday, October 1 (7.30pm) in the Rome Hall of the Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires. “Lia” works in agreement with the Embassy of Italy, conducting research on current issues regarding Italy and Argentina.
