(October 7, 2015) A smart label – made in Italy – to avoid risks at the table. It’s the smart tag that change color with temperature changes (from colorless to dark blue if the temperature exceeds 4 degrees Celsius) and follow step by step the path of a food (milk, yogurt, cheese), ensuring the security linked to the correct temperature of storing fresh foods. These special labels have been designed by a group of researchers from the Department of Materials Science of the University of Milano-Bicocca and Imperial College London, and coordinated by Luca Beverina, associate professor of Organic Chemistry at the same college. The article about the study has been published in the journal “Advanced Optical Materials”. “The labels that we have developed – explains Luca Beverina – are simple devices, cheap and reliable. They can record all the thermal history of a package in an easy way and readable to the naked eye. It is a solution that helps manufacturers and distributors to keep the food fresh.” (Red)
