Warsaw – As part of the “Fall Meeting 2015” of the European Material Research Society, held in Warsaw in recent days, Pietro Camarda, a student of the XXIX joint PhD cycle in Material Science and Nanotechnology between the Universities of Palermo and Catania, received the award for best scientific contribution by a young researcher in the section “Stress, structure, and stoichiometry effects on the properties of nanomaterials.” Pietro Camarda operates under the supervision of professor Marco Cannas in the research group “Laboratory of Advanced Materials Physics” within the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Palermo. His paper “Online optical spectroscopy to study defective ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by pulsed laser ablation of a Zn plate in H2O” won the prize and garnered considerable interest among the conference participants: some 1,000 scientists from Europe and beyond.
