October 23rd, 2015 – The Theatre of the Italian Institute of Culture in Beijing opens its doors – on Monday, October 26 at 7pm – to director Vito Robbiani. The occasion is one of the events promoted under the 15th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World: the presentation and screening of the film “Stella Ciao”. Robbiani – born in 1972, Swiss and Italian – will introduce the Chinese public to his latest documentary starring Silvio: 50-year-old from Sardinia, lover of jazz music and karaoke. His is a story of emigration and immigration. Silvio is the director of “Stella D’Oro,” a restaurant with accommodation on the Swiss banks of Lake Maggiore. For some time, the structure houses, in addition to the increasingly rare tourists, also asylum seekers. The building, however, is threatened by a construction project for a new residential complex. In the meantime, the last days in the restaurant are marked by the passing of life, in a place where stories intersect with dreams of different cultures and backgrounds. Silvio arrived in Switzerland many years ago to seek a better life. This experience will affect, of course, his relations with the asylum seekers. The story told by Robbiani has clear references to Italy’s past and present. The meeting with the director in Beijing was organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy in China. (Red)
