Prague – The Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, in collaboration with the Gariwo Association – Garden of the Righteous Prague and Edizioni Carmelite, and with the patronage of the Italian Embassy, has organized the presentation of the Czech translation of the book “Un giusto ritrovato – Karel Weirich: la Resistenza civile e il salvataggio degli ebrei in Italia.” The conference, scheduled for today at 7pm at the Italian Institute of Culture in Prague, will see the participation of Alberto Tronchin, author of the book, Francesco Leoncini, from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Helena Weirichová, nephew of Karel Weirich, Dominik Duka, Archbishop of Prague, and Andreas Pieralli, president of Gariwo. The presentations will be preceded by a speech by Giovanni Scioli, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, and Aldo Amati, Italian Ambassador in Prague. Karel Weirich (1906-1981) is still not very well known in the Czech Republic. In Italy it was only recently that Alberto Tronchin, young historian and researcher, discovered and published his extraordinary story. Karel Weirich was a reporter, stenographer and accountant active in the years before the war. In 1935 he became Vatican correspondent for the ČTK Czech news agency. (9Colonne)
