November 4th, 2015 – Gabriele D’Annunzio was a writer, poet, playwright, soldier, politician, journalist, symbol of the Decadent movement and famous figure of the First World War. He clearly left a profound mark on his era. And now, a meeting organized by the Centre Aixois d’Etudes Romanes (CAER), in collaboration with the University of Aix-Marseille, wants to shed a light on this great Italian artist. Scheduled for Nov. 10 (at 6pm) at the Italian Cultural Institute of Marseilles, the conference “Gabriele d’Annunzio, the power of images and the war momentum” is part of the series of seminars hosted by the University of Provence entitled “The Italians and the Great War.” Star of the conference will be Yannick Gouchan, professor at the University of Aix-Marseille. Gabriele d’Annunzio (1863-1938) was a major figure in the Italian and European literary scene, in the late 19th and early 20th century. Sometimes flattered, the subject of imitations and parodies, sometimes hated, D’Annunzio left a mark not only for the richness and variety of his works, but also for the role he played during the First World War.
