Brasilia – Until Friday João Pessoa, Brazil, hosts the Internet Governance Forum sponsored by the United Nations, entitled “Evolution of Internet Governance: Empowering Sustainable Development”. Speakers from Italy include Stefano Rodotà, AGCOM Commissioner Antonio Preto, Democratic Party MP Paolo Coppola, and M5S MPs Lorenzis Diego De Marco Beauty, Anna Masera and Stefano Quintarelli. The event was first launched in 2006 as a meeting place and multilateral multi-stakeholder, open initiative to discuss the main issues related to Internet governance: the rules, procedures, infrastructure and programs that determine its functioning and evolution. Not only technical aspects, but also economic and social ones that governments, private organizations and civil society contribute to outline, also in relation to far-reaching issues such as democracy, participation and transparency. While it is not a decision-making body, the IGF is a reference point for the development of policies relating to the Internet. (9Colonne)
