Cairo – The President of the Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, met in Cairo the Chief Executive Officer of Eni, Claudio Descalzi. Following the recent meetings held in August and October, Descalzi was able to update President al-Sisi on the progress of the development plan for the Zohr field, whose drilling activities will resume in January 2016. The meeting was also an opportunity to review all of Eni’s assets in Egypt in order to maximize production in the country, with a particular focus on the Nooros discovery, that, with the entry into production of the second well, reaches the potential of 5MMmc / g. In addition, the two discussed the potential underlying opening a gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, which would allow to pool transport and Egyptian export infrastructure with those of nearby discoveries in the area, such as those in Cyprus and Israel. Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954, where it operates through its IEOC subsidiary, and has historically been a precursor in the field gas exploration and exploitation in the country since the discovery of Camp Abu Maadi in 1967.
