Luanda – It began on December 8 in Chiulo, in southern Angola, the new intervention of Medici con l’Africa Cuamm. The goal of the two-year project is to improve care for mothers and children. The intervention – explains CUAMM – is based on an important partnership with the African International Foundation, the main supporter of the project. The activities, which already started experimentally for several months, focus on the Chiulo hospital and 3 health centers in the surrounding area, with the aim of ensuring continuous and quality health care to the most vulnerable of the Cunene population. And first results are already visible, thanks to the continuous presence of a gynecologist-surgeon, a pediatrician-neonatologist and an expert in public health, explains Dr. Fabio Battisti, Cuamm surgeon at the Chiulo hospital. “The presence of experienced staff allows to maintain a high level of care, a care that the population can rely on and trusts. Until two years ago, the hospital had, on average, 800 births per year; in 2014 we recorded 1,028 births, and from January to November 2015 there were 1,221 births, for a 30.5% increase over the same period of 2014. ” (9Colonne)
