Cairo – The Director General of the Development Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giampaolo Cantini, and the Director General of Istat, Tommaso Antonucci, signed yesterday three treaties. The goal of the agreements is to strengthen the statistics departments of Ethiopia (for which the agreement focuses on offering assistance for the population census of 2017), Egypt (assistance for the population census of 2016), and Caricom countries (capacity building). The treaties confirm the central role statistics has in development cooperation, especially since the 2000 UN World Summit. Reliable and up-to-date statistics allow for better-designed policies, both for donor and recipient countries. (9colonne)
