29 December, 2015 – The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia – UNIMORE – recently revealed the first pre-clinical results withing its research on polymeric nanoparticle treatment for Huntington’s disease. The nanoparticles, directed by the Central Nervous System, carry active ingredients in animals suffering from one of the worst neurodegenerative diseases known to man, which leads to a cognitive decline and psychiatric problems. The study was conducted in a collaboration between the research team of Te.far.ti Unimore, coordinated by Professor Maria Angela Vandelli and the laboratory “NeuroStem cell Biology and Pharmacology of Neurodegenerative diseases” headed by Professor and Senator for Life Elena Cattaneo, along with the Brain Research Institute at the University of California, the Neurological Institute C. Besta in Milan, the laboratory of Clinical Chemistry of the Ospedale di Circolo Macchi Foundation of Varese and the Institute of Neurosciences of Turin. The discovery is relevant not only for the treatment of Huntington’s disease, but also for various diseases affecting the central nervous system. (Red)
