Phnom Penh – The Pediatric Hospital Bambino Gesù in Rome and the Istituto Giannina Gaslini in Genoa have signed a collaboration agreement that will see the two organizations bring aid in the developing world. The purpose of the agreement is to promote medical support activities in countries where there is a greater need for solidarity. The international projects will focus in providing pediatric care and support for disadvantaged groups and equip local health workers with the necessary skills to continue the work on their own (through training programs in pediatric medicine and management, both in the countries of origin and at the two hospitals). In recent years, the Bambino Gesù and the Gaslini have carried out international missions in 31 countries. Doctors and nurses of the two bodies have operated in Cambodia, Vietnam, Tanzania, Haiti, Russia, Jordan, Macedonia, Chile, Venezuela, Tunisia, Morocco, Iraqi Kurdistan, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates. Over time, they also developed health cooperation projects in Lebanon, El Salvador, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Romania, Peru, Syria, Eritrea, Palestine, Benin, Kurdistan, Georgia and India.
