(20 January 2016) Changes, revolutions, opportunities, threats, and challenges. In a word: the future. The transformations that lie ahead and those that radically changed our lifestyles in recent years are currently at the center of talks in Santiago. The occasion is “The Congress of the Future,” which began yesterday and will end on 24 January. The Congress is a space for exchanging ideas among the leaders of scientific world. For its fifth edition, the Congress invited the Italians Maria Pia Rossignaud and Stefano Mancuso. Rossignaud takes part in the meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 21 at 9am on “Knowledge, culture and innovation. New tools for the education of the future,” while Mancuso on Thursday at 5pm will speak about “The civilization of the future, human or artificial? The unknown world.” Rossignaud, journalist and editor of the digital culture magazine Media Duemila, for the past thirty years has studied the changes triggered by the onset of the digital age. She is vice president of the cultural association “Osservatorio TuttiMedia” that since 1996 organizes activities dedicated to the dissemination of issues related to digital culture, and also served on the Board of Directors of UGIS (Italian Scientific Journalists Union). On the other hand, Mancuso is a leading authority in the field of plant neurobiology. Founder and director of the International Laboratory of Plant Neurobiology at the University of Florence, his research studies the intelligence of vegetable plants and their ability to solve problems. The event – organized by the Chilean Senate in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Santiago and the Embassy of Italy in Chile – is held at the Congress of Santiago (Catedral 1158).
