(8 February, 2016) After last year’s win in Bangkok for “Best puppet musical comedy award” at the Harmony World Puppet Carnival (the most important of puppets festival in the world), this year the Teatro Verde company will represent Italy in the 14th edition of the Ishara International Puppet Festival, held in India. The Italian theater company joins another eight from Egypt, Iran, the United States, Afghanistan, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and India. The Festival, which takes place in the three cities of New Delhi, Chandigarh and Guargaon until February 12, sees the Italian company bring to the stage Bravo, Bravissimo! by Andrea Calabretta, directed by Francis Mattioni and the artistic direction of Veronica Olmi. Teatro Verde is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in New Delhi and UNIMA Italy (Union International de la Marionnette). The show is a collaboration between the Teatro Verde and the Teatro Pirata of Jesi, two among the oldest puppet theater companies in Italy. The Teatro Verde is back in India, “after many years and shows in all continents, thanks to the invitation of Ishara Festival Director Dadi Pudumjee, who believes in the work and history of this theater company and wants to make it known throughout world. This is a worthy recognition for Italian puppet theater, an art and a heritage protected thanks to the Unima Archives Networks, a candidate to join the UNESCO Memory of the World Register”. The Unima Archives Networks of Figure Theatre features various collections, museums, libraries, and archives owned by different companies, theaters and historical puppeteer families (Colla, Signorelli, Podrecca, Cuticchios, Monticelli, Sarzi …). It’s a heritage of immense value with over 100,000 artifacts (even dating back to the 17th century), many of which come to life in the shows still today. (Red)
