(22 February 2016) Andrea De Luca is Director of the Infectious Diseases Department at AOU University Hospital in Siena and Professor within the Medical Biotechnology Department at the University of Siena. As of today, however, he is also a lecturer in international training course for African doctors organized in Maputo, capital of Mozambique. “This course – explains De Luca – revolves around HIV infection, coinfections and related co-morbidity in Sub-Saharan Africa. The course is organized by the Dream program, supported by the Comunità di Sant’ Egidio”. “The participating doctors – adds the professor – are responsible for the Dream centers located in 11 African countries, where antiretroviral treatments reach about 300,000 patients. In the course – continues De Luca – we will address a variety of issues, including new challenges related to the management of HIV infection, drug resistance, co-infection with hepatitis and human papillomavirus virus, as well as metabolic cardiovascular and cancer co-morbidities. I think the contribution of the University Hospital in Siena represents an important contribution – concludes De Luca – to the Dream program, and it undoubtedly constitutes an excellence and a pride for our country. ” (Red)
