Istanbul – Foreign Affairs Minister Paolo Gentiloni has returned from Turkey. On February 22, the Foreign Minister met in Ankara the head of Turkish diplomacy. The two discussed Turkey’s strategic role for the EU in the fight against terrorism and the migrant crisis, and the revival of economic relations between Italy and Turkey, which, despite the historical Italian business presence in the country, is suffering from the economic slowdown. Yesterday, Gentiloni went to Istanbul to attend the High Level Meeting on Somalia. The High Level Partnership Forum is the most important platform for dialogue between the Somali authorities and key international partners. It’s the political coordination body for the five thematic working groups in charge of supervising the implementation of the many strategic objectives in the New Deal Compact Somalia – approved in Brussels in September 2013. At the ministerial level, the HLPF has until now only met twice: in Copengahen in November 2014 and Mogadishu in July 2015. (9Colonne)
