Brussels – Introducing “low emission” zones in cities, promoting the purchase of less polluting vehicles, certifying biomass stoves for residential heating and fuels. These are just some of the recommendations dedicated to local governments that emerge from the European project Airuse, focused on particulate air pollution in the big cities of southern Europe, recently presented in Florence. The initiative was organized – in collaboration with the Council for Environment and Soil Conservation of the Tuscany Region – by Franco Lucarelli, Professor of Experimental Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Florence and Italian coordinator of the project. Airuse involved researchers from seven European institutions, including the University of Florence and the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics. (9Colonne)
