(26 February 2016) From the himneysweepers, construction workers, ice-cream vendors, miners and workers of the 19th century to the teachers and university researchers, scientists, expatriates and “transmigrants” of the present era, the book “1001 Italians. History and stories of Italians in the Netherlands” captures the contribution of our compatriots to the history and development of the Netherlands. The first organic study in Italian, written by Daniela Tasca, collects stories of “1001 Italians” in a project launched in the spring 2012 by the Italian Ambassador in The Hague, Francesco Azzarello, during a meeting in Eindhoven. Today, the book is a publishing project sponsored by the Embassy, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with Stichting Culturissima / 1001 Italianen. The book was presented on February 25 in the auditorium of the University of Amsterdam. “This book – noted Ambassador Azzarello – wants to be a gift to our compatriots in the Netherlands, actors of its history and modern excellences. But it also wants to be an instrument of knowledge and reference outside the Netherlands. After four years, it’s great to see the final product and to be able to share it.” (Sip)
