(7 March 2016) She is one of the most appreciated Italian “noses” in the world. Laura Bosetti Tonatto creates perfumes and tailored mélanges for major cosmetic houses since 1986. Her talent will be duly honored on Friday, March 11 (at 8pm) with a meeting, entitled “Perfume: a love story,” scheduled at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid. The event has been organized by the Institute in collaboration with the Ellas Crean Festival. Since October 2006 Laura Tonatto is part of the faculty at the University of Ferrara, in the Department of Pharmacy, as Associated Professor in the Master’s Degree Program in Science and Cosmetic Technology; more specifically, she teaches in the courses “Perfumes: Art and Production” and “Aromachology”. Tonatto is also the creator of a cultural workshop “Nose and Parnassus” that studies how essences and aromas were used in ancient times and today. She has also curated several exhibitions including: “Caravaggio, a painting, a scent” for the St. Petersburg Hermitage. For the National Museum of Oriental Art in Rome, Tonatto was responsible for the olfactory section of “Aromatic: essences, perfumes and spices of the East and West”, recreating the scents of Syrian Water (1st century BC) and of Water Admirabilis (1609) by Giovanni Maria Farina, which later became Eau de Cologne. The perfume talent is also one of the few who understood how to express the relationship between art, science and culture in general, as important works of art inspired some of her most famous perfumes. Thanks to a long work of analysis and study of the art, Tonatto was able to transform these artistic influences in fragrances, allowing us to experience the masterpieces through the most unusual of the senses. For her talent and expertise, Laura Tonatto also had the honor of creating a tailored collection for Queen Elizabeth II. On November 26, 2012, by decree of the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano she was awarded the honor of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Finally, for the Extraordinary Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Francis, Tonatto presented a series of fragrances inspired by the scents spoken of in the Bible. (Red)
