(11 March 2016) “The Development Cooperation Week was a success, and with the support of the initiative ‘One World, One Future’, the initiative involved many students from different schools in special global citizenship education programs. The goal was to raise awareness among younger generations on how cooperation is the best investment for the future, an essential component to achieve the sustainable development goals of Agenda 2030″. Giampaolo Cantini, Director General of the Development Cooperation Directorate General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, declares himself satisfied of the Week for International Development Cooperation promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education. The last week of February (Feb. 22-28) welcomed over 300 events involving 65.000 students and more than 5000 teachers, a symbolic event to bring to an end the European Year for Development 2015, during which the Week was conceived and planned. “The European Year for Development, proclaimed by the European Union – continued Cantini – was an opportunity to promote awareness of cooperation activities, and awareness that individuals can and do have a role in influencing global processes. It was an unparalleled opportunity to spur Europeans to feel part of the development agenda”. With this purposes, the project “One world, one future” brought together some 20 NGOs with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education. The project activated a vast network of schools involved in debating global issues like food sovereignty, social economy, and migration. (Sip)
