Paris – The #pizzaUnesco campaign has reached a new milestone. The traveling event is currently in Paris, where Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, promoter of the petition and the campaign Arte dei pizzaiuoli napoletani Patrimonio Unesco, with Coldiretti president Roberto Moncalvo, and the President of Neapolitan Pizzaiuoli Association (ANP) Sergio Miccù has delivered the “first 1 million” signatures at the UNESCO headquarters. The presidents of the promoting agencies announced the achievement of the first 1 million signatures during Paris Expo “Porte de Versailles”, on the occasion of “Parizza – Championnat de France de Pizza”. Today, a public event, sponsored by the Foundation UniVerde, along with Coldiretti and ANP in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Italy to UNESCO, opens the doors of the Unesco Cafeteria, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The group will present the campaign #pizzaunesco and celebrate the first million signatures. Speakers include Ambassador Vincenza Lomonaco, Permanent Representative of Italy to UNESCO; Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, Roberto Moncalvo and Sergio Miccù; and the ambassador and pioneer of Neapolitan pizza in Asia, Salvatore Cuomo. Neapolitan pizza, the only type of Italian pizza recognized in Italy and Europe (as of 4 February 2010, it was officially recognized as a Guaranteed Traditional Specialty of the European Community), is the best known Italian gastronomic product in the world, a real symbol of Italy, the result of a centuries-old art threatened by globalization. To protect the values and the link with its territory of origin, and thanks to the great mobilization of people and personalities from around the world as well as the commitment of the Italian government, the Italian National Commission for Unesco officially nominated Neapolitan pizza.
