Mumbai – The Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI) and the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) Council signed a Collaboration Agreement to promote and introduce in India building materials and products in line with international environmental sustainability standards. The Agreement was signed at the GRIHA Summit in Delhi last February 17, during the presentation of the project “Make it Sustainable Building Materials (MiSBM)”, sponsored by the IICCI, the Piedmont Foreign Centre for Internationalization (CEIP) and Coventry University, supported by the European Business Technology Centre (EBTC). The goal of the project is to develop protocols for the certification of eco-friendly building materials in accordance with ISO 14020 standards, adapted to the specificities of the Indian market, in three categories of products: cement, concrete and mortar; bricks and tiles; and insulation and waterproofing. The protocols will then become a reference point for the definition of eco-friendly product certification schemes, managed by organisms with proven experience. The drafting and validation of protocols will see the participation of the different stakeholders so as to ensure transparency and credibility: Italian, European and Indian institutions, associations, professionals, academia, research centers and companies.
