(24 March 2016) Harbors, logistics, culture, food, and research… This was on the agenda of the meeting between the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region Debora Serracchiani and Moroccan Ambassador to Italy Hassan Abou Ayoub. The two met yesterday in Rome, at the seat of the Region in Piazza Colonna. The respective strategic location in the Mediterranean (Friuli as a gateway to central Europe, and Morocco to North Africa) offers a real opportunity for cooperation. In the meeting with the Ambassador, President Serracchiani wanted to lay the foundation for a deeper dialogue “addressing – explains a note – the signing of a series of agreements, on the basis of the interest expressed by some Friuli entrepreneurs for the North African country, which is experiencing a historic economic expansion with GDP growth at 4.8% in 2015”. “Another favorable condition that leads us to interact with Morocco – commented President Serracchiani – relates to its new institutional order. The Rabat government recently launched a regionalist-type reform, which gives greater autonomy to its territories. In this new structure, the opportunity to have direct partnerships with specific Moroccan local institutions and authorities represents a strategic element of objective advantage.” (Red)
