Canberra – Alitalia will now transport its passengers to Australia, thanks to a codeshare agreement signed with Virgin Australia. With tickets available for sale from April 15, the agreement grows Alitalia’s international coverage by applying its “AZ” flight code to Virgin Australia’s flights from Abu Dhabi to Sydney, connecting in Brisbane. Likewise, the Australian company will apply its “VA” code to Alitalia’s daily flights from Abu Dhabi to Rome and Milan Malpensa, thereby increasing its European presence. The new agreement between the companies also represents an opportunity for their respective frequent flyer programme members. “There are approximately one million people of Italian origin living in Australia. We hope this new agreement will push even more travellers, especially friends and relatives, to continue to help shorten the distance between these two great countries,” stated John Shepley, Chief Strategy and Planning Officer at Alitalia.
